GUILD ACTIVITY: OCTOBER 2009 NOTEBOOK QUILTS

Anyone Can Make and finish THESE Quilts!

LAQ is doing a new fun guild activity that we can all take part in together over the next few months, and if everyone enjoys it we will do it a few more times in the coming year. What will we be doing? Notebook Quilts!

What is a Notebook Quilt? A Notebook Quilt is a quilt with a final size of only 8 ½ x 11 inches that is vertically oriented…just like a sheet torn from a notebook! A tiny quilt of this size is not only easy to complete (Yay!) but it gives us all a wonderful opportunity to get creative and try new skills and techniques without committing to a large daunting quilt.

OK, so what’s the guild activity?! We’re all going to make our own Notebook Quilts and then display them at the October guild meeting for everyone to see. If we have fun we’ll repeat the activity every couple of months displaying them at guild meetings and then ultimately displaying them all together at our next quilt show!

Now for the rules (which are super easy):

1. Final quilt size must be 8 ½ x 11 inches and must be vertically oriented. You can make as many as you want!
2. For each quilt you make pick one of the following themes and be as creative as you want with the theme and the techniques. Consider trying something new or creating a series!
- Real Places or Things
- Imaginary Places or Things
3. When your quilt(s) are finished write the following on an index card for each Notebook Quilt you make:
- Title of Quilt
- Your Name
- A paragraph about the quilt.
4. Label the back or your quilt(s) and bring them and their index card(s) to the October Guild meeting to show them off!

That’s it! Sounds fun doesn’t it!?! If you’d like some inspiration visit this link about Journal Quilts (a form of Notebook Quilts):
